Introduction

An M3 manager responsibly leads all aspects of an engineering team’s people, process and delivery. They help individuals on their team grow, create healthy team dynamics, drive improvements to their team’s processes and metrics, grow their team based on business needs, partner well with stakeholders from other disciplines and teams, and help adapt to change effectively. By doing so, they ultimately run a reliable team that predictably delivers business value in line with the company’s business strategy.

Job Responsibilities

- Leads both operational and directional aspects for a single team

- Accountable for team’s consistent delivery of high quality, on time work product; dependencies and impacts have been vetted and mitigated upon final delivery

- Accountable for team’s utilization of system lifecycle best practice

- Responsible for full employee life cycle, including hiring strong engineers, on-boarding, goal alignment, work assignment, coaching / performance management, career growth planning, compensation planning and addressing skill gaps for each direct report

- Adheres to the company's budgeting and accounting practices and policies

- Builds team with healthy dynamics

- Upholds department and company policies and reinforces them when necessary

Knowledge and Experience

- Very knowledgeable in their team’s technical areas, systems, and processes, and they can quickly understand, verify, and positively influence their team’s decisions that may also impact other teams

- Has the ability to break down team deliverables into meaningful projects and de-risk delivery; empowers and delegates to team members

- Works with individuals on their team to create and document clear career growth and development plans; measures and communicates progress or lack thereof, clearly, and effectively, including specifying positive or negative consequences

- Ability to drive work that creates positive business outcomes

Education

Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
