Introduction
The Optimizely Documentation team is looking for a Technical Writer II to help create content for end users and developers. You will work in a fast-paced, Agile environment with subject matter experts from the Product and Engineering teams, and partner with teams like Product Delivery, Education, Onboarding, Enablement, and Customer Success to ensure product documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and meets users’ needs
Job Responsibilities
Core Skills:
- Organize, design, and create end user and developer documentation, including API and SDK documentation as well as developer walkthroughs.
- Translate complex technical topics into clear, concise language and create effective visual aids.
- Adhere to style guide standards.
- Follow product release cycles and collaborate with product/engineering teams to determine the impact on existing documentation or need for new documentation.
- Assess documentation quality and recommend revisions to scope, format, and content.
- Manage multiple projects, including documentation for major product launches, and communicate progress to stakeholders, documentation team, and manager.
- Develop and maintain in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of assigned Optimizely software products.
- Actively contribute to team meetings, including retrospectives and style guide meetings.
- Provide and receive peer review feedback.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical Writing, Technical Communication, Computer Science, or equivalent, required.
- 1-3 years of related documentation experience with software.
- Proficient with Markdown and HTML.
- Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly, curious to learn new technologies.
- Understanding of Agile software development processes, including writing user stories and managing tasks in an iterative environment.
- Strong communication skills, including:
- Writing, editing, and diagramming.
- Knowledge of Standard American English grammar and technical writing style norms.
- Ability to listen actively and ask relevant questions.
- Ability to work as a productive team member to:
- Handle multiple concurrent projects.
- Prioritize work under pressure.
- Work independently to research, plan, and manage projects.
- Adhere to team processes.
- Ability to act independently to:
- Proactively determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
- Creatively consider potential solutions, resolve issues, and work directly with subject matter experts.
Writing Samples: Submit a portfolio with a cover letter and 3-5 relevant technical writing samples for review.
Nice to have
- Experience with Cloud/SaaS/PaaS.
- Experience with ReadMe, Zendesk Guide, Jira, Confluence, and Snagit.
- Ability to read code in at least one language.
- Proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- Experience with OpenAPI Specification (Swagger)
