Introduction

The Optimizely Documentation team is looking for a skilled Senior Technical Writer to help create content for users and developers. You will work in a fast-paced, Agile environment with subject matter experts from the Product and Engineering teams, and partner with teams like Product Delivery, Education, Onboarding, Enablement, and Customer Success to ensure product documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and meets users’ needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize, design, and create end user and developer documentation
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear, concise language and create effective visual aids
  • Adhere to style guide standards
  • Follow product release cycles and collaborate with product/engineering teams to determine impact on existing documentation or need for new documentation
  • Assess documentation quality and recommend revisions to scope, format, and content
  • Manage multiple projects, including documentation for major product launches, and communicate progress to stakeholders, documentation team, and manager
  • Develop and maintain in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of Optimizely software products and function as a documentation expert for the company who can reliably write documentation for any product
  • Actively contribute to team meetings, including retrospectives and style guide meetings
  • Mentor less experienced team members regarding best practices and industry knowledge
  • Coordinate process improvement initiatives, such as content migration, updating old documentation, automated release notes, dashboard creation/maintenance, and style guide revisions
  • Provide and receive peer review feedback
  • Please note, this role will be working closely with our US team so working hours will be from 2:00pm - 10:00pm (GMT+6)
  • Work week will be Sunday through Thursday

Knowledge and Experience

  • 3-7 years of related documentation experience in a fast-paced or Agile environment, with Cloud/SaaS/PaaS experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of technical writing tools and technology or strong technical ability and flexibility to adopt and use relevant tools (including Zendesk, ReadMe, Jira, and Confluence)
  • Knowledge of Markdown languages, HTML, and CSS
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly, curious to learn new technologies
  • Understanding of Agile software development processes, including writing user stories and managing tasks in an iterative environment
  • Strong communication skills, including:
    • Writing, designing, and editing
    • Knowledge of Standard American English grammar and technical writing style norms
    • Ability to listen actively and ask the right questions
  • Ability to work as a team member to:
    • Handle multiple concurrent projects
    • Prioritize under pressure
    • Work independently to research, plan, and manage projects
    • Manage schedule to meet defined deadlines
    • Adhere to team processes
  • Ability to act independently to:
    • Proactively determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments
    • Creatively consider potential solutions, resolve issues, and work directly with subject matter experts
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills that encourage collaboration, growth, and development, both within the team and cross-departmentally

Nice to have:

  • Experience with ReadMe and Zendesk Guide
  • Knowledge of a code repository
  • Experience with/knowledge of a programming language
  • Ability to read code
  • GitHub and API documentation experience

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical Writing, Technical Communication, Computer Science, or equivalent, required.

We currently work from home; however, we plan to return to the office by early Q2, 2023.
