Job Responsibilities

The Role:  
We're seeking a skilled Staff Software Engineer to focus on reducing request latency for our Graph service, directly impacting user experience. This role analyzes and optimizes performance across the entire service stack, from the GraphQL API down to microservices in Kubernetes, including Elasticsearch interactions and data ingestion. Key responsibilities include in-depth latency analysis and profiling, pinpointing performance bottlenecks in the API, microservices, and data layers. The engineer optimizes the GraphQL API, including query resolution and caching, and tunes microservices for resource utilization and efficient execution. 

 

Collaboration with the Elasticsearch Engineer is crucial for optimizing Elasticsearch queries. Ensuring performant data ingestion pipelines is also a priority. The role involves developing and executing load tests and benchmarks to simulate real-world traffic and identify scaling limitations. The engineer collaborates with development teams, communicating performance findings and proposing solution.

 

Strong expertise in performance engineering, distributed systems, profiling tools, and optimization techniques is essential. Experience with GraphQL, microservices, Kubernetes, and Elasticsearch is highly desirable.

Work Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Knowledge and Experience

Experience required: 

  • 3+ years’ experience of developing and managing services in production 
  • Experience improving request latency for complex services 
  • Experience developing with TypeScript  
  • Experience in Kubernetes, Docker etc. and/ or serverless cloud stacks 
  • Expertise with API design and development of GraphQL or RESTful web services  
  • Experience partnering closely with internal stakeholders, to gain a strong understanding of business and product data needs 
  • You find satisfaction in being a force multiplier for your colleagues 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or engineering or related experience require

  • Experience developing GraphQL APIs

  • Experience developing multi-tenant services 
  • Experience working with go-to-market teams  
  • Understanding the value of pair programming/TDD/Clean Code

Education

Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
