A Manager, Software Engineering responsibly leads all aspects of an engineering team’s people, process and delivery. They help individuals on their team grow, create healthy team dynamics, drive improvements to their team’s processes and metrics, grow their team based on business needs, partner well with stakeholders from other disciplines and teams, and help adapt to change effectively. By doing so, they ultimately run a reliable team that predictably delivers business value in line with the company’s business strategy.

Job Responsibilities

Leads both operational and directional aspects for a single development team
Accountable for team’s consistent delivery of high quality, on time work product; dependencies and impacts have been vetted and mitigated upon final delivery
Accountable for team’s utilization of software development lifecycle best practices 
Responsible for full employee life cycle, including hiring strong engineers, on-boarding, goal alignment, work assignment, coaching / performance management, career growth planning, compensation planning and addressing skill gaps for each direct report
Adheres to the company's budgeting and accounting practices and policies
Builds team with healthy dynamics
Upholds department and company policies and reinforces them when necessary

Knowledge and Experience

1-5 years of experience in engineering management
5+ years of prior career experience as a software engineer
Prior experience in a technical leadership role
Experience building, delivering, and maintaining services that comprise modern PaaS/SaaS products


Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
