Introduction
Senior Software Engineers are subject matter experts with mastery in a specific product and/or technical functional area and consistently manage and ship high quality and timely releases that solve complex problems end-to-end. They possess strong technical skills and experience in their areas of expertise that they leverage to mentor junior engineers and to make thoughtful technical tradeoff decisions. They proactively communicate their technical design and decisions through various technical forums. They own the operational excellence of their services/components. They assume increasing levels of leadership roles on technical and/or non-technical (cultural) initiatives and play an influential role in hiring, retaining and growing diversity in the company.
Job Responsibilities
Working as part of a distributed/remote development team, this role requires a focus on back-end development, large-scale data-processing and knowledge of statistical techniques for building and maintaining a high-performance analytics platform. Your responsiblities will include:
- Designing, implementing, and optimizing high-performance backend systems using Java, Kotlin, BigQuery
- Working with statisticians, engineers and product management to implement and test complex analytics functionality
- Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code following industry best practices
- Ensuring database design and queries are optimized for scalability and performance
- Troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving production issues efficiently
- Willing to expand knowledge and expertise to different stacks to get the job done
- Driving delivery of high-quality epics that solve complex problems, with minimum viable end-to-end solutions
Knowledge and Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend development, with a focus on building scalable applications
- Experience coding in an industry-standard language (e.g. Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.), however deep knowledge and expertise in Java is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Bayesian and/or Frequentist statistics
- Proficient in relational databases, particularly BigQuery and/or Snowflake
- Strong working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, design patterns and principles, and engineering best practices for producing high quality code
- Solid understanding of software architecture principles, microservices, and distributed systems
- A proven track record of working independently as an individual contributor and collaborating effectively within a team
- Excellent communication skills to articulate ideas, discuss trade-offs, and collaborate with peers and stakeholders
- Experience with agile delivery workflows and modern software quality techniques
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience building, delivering, and maintaining services that comprise modern PaaS/SaaS products is a plus
Education
Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
